MOVEMENT SESSION/REHEARSAL #1: TOGETHER WE CAN DO IT, CHANGING THE PERCEPTION OF AGEING WOMEN
6.30PM – 8.45PM
How do you think women aged 50+ are perceived in society & media today? We have collated your feedback from our questionnaire and used this to finalise a manifesto on ageing.
Get involved by taking part in free movement sessions where we’ll learn a routine created in response to the manifesto. We will then take to the streets on Saturday 1st October with other local women to perform the choreographed piece. No dance experience required. We encourage you to come to as many as you can, so that you can be confident with the movement; however, we understand that some people will not be able to commit to all of these. If you aren’t able to participate in the performance itself, we would love you to come and watch the performance and support all the women involved!
Kabecca Films creatively preserve the personal experiences of women aged 50+ through producing cinematic choreographic short films and live works of which women are at the centre.

CHALLENGING AGEISM: THE VALUE OF OLDER WORKERS AND HOW WORK IS CHANGING POST PANDEMIC
9AM – 10.30AM
We want to hear to hear your thoughts and views alongside our panel discussion. This event will discuss the findings from a small survey recently undertaken to better understand the current demand for ageing workers by local employers and the perceptions those employers have about an ageing workforce. This is important particularly in light of ONS data that suggests that the employment of those over 50 continues to fall post-pandemic and the impact this is having on the quality of life of those people. Come and join the conversation whether you’re someone that is employed, run your own business or work for an organisation that employs older people.

CRIME WRITER WILLIAM SHAW
WHY IS CRIME FICTION SO POPULAR?
7PM – 9PM
The older we get, the more crime fiction we seem to read. Almost half of regular crime fiction readers are aged 55+, and crime now outsells every other genre of fiction. What is going on? Best-selling crime writer William Shaw wonders why we are drawn to such dark stories in our books and on TV. Is it just because we like stories where the baddies get their just deserts or is there something else going on that makes crime fiction the genre that tells the stories we want to hear.
